As many of you are aware, the Consumer Products Safety Commission has been taking another look at Swimming Pool & Spa Safety Drain Covers. A decision has been made that some previously approved models do not meet the standards that are necessary for pool and spa users safety.

The Consumer Product Safety Commision has voted to change the definition of an unblockable drain to require the sump in addition to the drain cover to measure more than 18" x 23" according to Pool & Spa News. The following information that we received from them may be of some help to you now:
1:
Main pools with dual drains or gravity fed systems with the recalled covers are safe to open
2: Wading pools with 1 recalled drain and a SVRS are urged to not open
3: Wading pools ( dual drain ) with 2 recalled drains are urged not to open
4: Wading pools with dual approved grates are OK Wading pools with 1 approved cover and a SVRS are ok
LAWSON AQUATICS
Lawson Aquatics, while not part of the official recall, has issued a voluntary Corrective Action Plan. This is for dealers who have purchased any of their 18" x 18" main drain grates/covers as either frame and grates or sump and grates from December 19, 2008 to present.
